[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Liposuction Abdominoplasty Surgery is a very effective body contouring surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. In many cases, muscle repair is also performed, facilitating a smoother, firmer, more toned, and proportionate abdominal contour.
It is essential to develop a regular healthy diet and exercise regimen before surgery and maintain it in post-surgery. If there is a continuous tendency to gain weight, an abdominoplasty will not help as it is not a weight reduction surgery but a body contouring surgery.
An ideal candidate for tummy tuck surgery is a person who has excess fat localized to the abdominal region. It is frequently done in patients who have lost weight rapidly or following bariatric surgery wherein excess baggy skin needs to be excised from not just the abdomen but also the arms and thighs.
The tummy tuck is usually combined with liposuction, a minimally invasive method of sucking out excess fat. The first liposuction is done to remove excess fat from targeted areas in the abdomen/flanks, and then excess skin and fat are excised.
The steps for abdominoplasty involve making a low incision transversely, roughly hip bone to hip bone. An extra incision is usually needed around the belly button to facilitate optimal skin stretching and excision. The skin and subcutaneous tissues are then lifted. When those steps are done, we evaluate the abdominal musculature and, if stretched out from pregnancies or from weight loss, repair the muscles to tighten and firm the abdomen.
After those steps are completed, the excess skin is removed and excised, and then the incisions are closed. Sometimes we use small drains, little plastic tubes underneath the skin to help evacuate any fluid or blood that might collect. When the incisions are closed, we put dressings on and put the patient in a post-operative compression garment to help with healing and to keep the swelling down.
This can be done as a daycare procedure, but preferably patients are kept hospitalized for a day or two. Ambulation is encouraged from the first postoperative day itself. The first couple of weeks are spent with the patient in a slightly bent position, even when walking, to avoid having extra stress on the healing wound. After the first couple of weeks, patients are usually more active, they’re not taking as much pain medicine, and they’re starting to resume their usual activities. If drains are used, they’re usually removed within the first two days to 3 days after surgery, and patients continue to wear the compression garment for a couple of days after the drains are removed.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]
